RSVP (Retired & Senior Volunteer Program)

RSVP is focused on providing older Americans with opportunities to apply their life experience to meeting community needs.

It is the mission of RSVP to: (1) To provide seniors over the age of 55 with meaningful and rewarding volunteer opportunities so they may remain productive citizens and (2) to help local non-profit organizations maintain their service to the community through the efforts of dependable motivated volunteers.

RSVP volunteers serve in a diverse range of non-profit organizations, public agencies, and faith-based groups. As befitting an agency that serves the senior population, RSVP is the leading volunteer program of the Council on Aging, as it comprises the largest volunteer group our agency administers. RSVP supports more than 50 local work stations on a year-round basis.

AmeriCorps VISTA

AmeriCorps VISTA volunteers administer a long-term hurricane recovery effort known as Hurricane Recover Osceola. This purpose of this program is to develop resources and support that will strengthen the skills and abilities of people and community groups to take effective action and leading roles in the community in the event of emergency and disaster.

After more than 40 years of making a difference, VISTA sets the standard for volunteer mobilization and is leading the charge to answer President George W. Bush's call for volunteer action from every American. AmeriCorps*Vista continues to achieve impressive long-term results in the communities it serves.

These programs have led to significant accomplishments in education, human needs, the environment, public safety, and organizational capacity. By becoming an AmeriCorps*Vista volunteer with the Council on Aging, you will be trained in hurricane preparedness and readiness. Senior Companion

Senior Companion is a stipend volunteer program that is designed to help low-income seniors supplement their income and gain a sense of self worth by providing companionship and practical in-home support to fellow seniors. Senior Companion volunteers also take frail seniors to doctor's appointments, the grocery store and their pharmacy. The volunteers who participate in the Senior Companion program must meet low-income guidelines and they are paid a small hourly stipend for providing services.

RELIEF (Respite for Elders Living In Everyday Families)

RELIEF is comprised of volunteers 18 years and older who go into the homes of seniors and their caregivers for a few hours in the evening or on the weekends to provide care for the senior and a much needed break for the caregiver. This is an invaluable service because providing respite to a caregiver helps ensure the continuation of care and reduces the likelihood of institutional placement for the senior.
